Czesław Druet, Prof. Dr hab.,
born on 29.03.1926 in Wilno, passed away on 10.07.2016.

Field of scientific experience:

Physical oceanography, geophysical hydromechanics, marine coastal processes. Author and co-author of 11 scientific books and over 90 scientific papers. Reciplent of the First Order rank State Award and several scientific awards from the Polish Academy of Sciences and regional institutions.

Present position in Poland:

Full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, member of the PAS Presidium. Chairman of the Polish National SCOR,. Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute of Oceanology PAS. Polish representative for the working contact to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission UNESCO. Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Gdańsk.

Past position in Poland:

General Director of the Institute of Oceanology PAS (1976-1990). Full professor of the Gdańsk University (Institute of Oceanography) (1984-1996), Scientific Secretary of the Polish Academy of Sciences - Gdańsk Branch (1980-1983). Member of the scientific advisory boards of several Polish institutes of marine research.

International activities:

Vice-Chairman of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission UNESCO (1978-1982). Chairman of the Scientific Review Board of IOC-UNESCO (1982-1984). Chairman of the Scientific - Technical Board of the World Ocean International Programme (1977-1980). Member of the Greenland Sea Project Steering Group (1984-1995). Nominated member of the Scientific Committee of Oceanic Research (SCOR). Member of the European Geophysical Society. Senior scientist on several joint international experiments in the Baltic and Black Sea coastal zones (1973-1979).
