I have expertise in Arctic fjords systems science, being educated in the field of oceanography, paleoceanography and sedimentology. My recent interests are the sea-environmental changes in European Arctic, modern processes of sedimentation, interaction between fresh and salt water and supply of the terrigenous matter to the fjords with applications to the Holocene climate changes study. Since science is the team effort, and I work in the Department of Marine Ecology, I also study the biological implications of the solids flux and sediment dynamics.
During 30 years of my professional activities I spent more than 50 months in European, American and Russian Arctic regions working in different scientific programs.

  • Holocene history of the Greenland Gyre
  • Dinocysts as the paleoceanographic indicator of the sea ice. Late Holocene history of the sea environment of Hornsund and Storfjorden (Svalbard).
  • Paleogentic reconstruction of Atlantic water advection into the Arctic Ocean over the Holocene.
  • Paleogenetics record in marine sediment as a new tool for reconstucting of the sea environmental changes in the Arctic.

  • Atlantic water advection to the European Arctic in Holocene. Paleoceanographic record of the West Spitsbergen Current fluctuation.
  • Modern climate changes and their influence on fjords environment.
