Distinguishing characteristics
Simple multidentate hooded hooks, starting on chaetigers 15-35.
Aciculae black or dark brown.
Maxillae III unidentate.
Species description
Body long and thin with up to 340 segments. Prostomium conical, slightly longer than broad. Parapodia uniramous with a short, rounded prechaetal lobes and short flap-like postchaetal lobes in anterior chaetigers. All chaetigers with capillary chaetae and simple multidentate hooded hooks, starting on chaetigers 15-35. Chaetae dark amber, aciculae black or dark brown. Maxillae III unidentate. No pygidial cirri.
Size
Up to 380 mm for 340 segments.
Color
Iridescent, reddish orange, brown or yellowish with whitish transverse bands.
Habitat
In sand, mud, gravel, broken shells, stones and various combinations of these. Also among Posidonia, from shallow subtidal depths to about 3500 m.
