Ophryotrocha cosmetandra Oug, 1990

Distinguishing characteristics
Males with dorsolateral processes from chaetiger15-17 and a posterior single mid-dorsal protuberance.

Species description
Body with 28-32 chaetigers. Prostomium rounded in front, about as long as wide. Dorsally with a pair of short papilliform antennae, no palps. Peristomium of same width as prostomium, with 2 equally long achaetous and apodus rings. Parapodium simple, uniramous, without dorsal and ventral cirri. Simple chaetae with fine serration and compound chaetae with pointed serrated blades. Males with conspicuous dorsolateral processes from chaetiger15-17 to posterior end, on chaetigers 26-29 a posterior single mid-dorsal protuberance. Mandibles with 3 strong teeth. Two anal cirri.

Size
4–6 mm long.

Color
Body whitish to yellowish.

Habitat
Prefer soft mud with high organic content, abundant in patches of sediment with a trace H2S.

Mobility
Mobile.

Feeding
Carnivore. Herbivore.
