Experience as a network admin
For about 18 months I was a part-time administrator of the
institute's computer network. I configured our first email
and WWW servers . Both were PCs, the former set up in 1993 running SCO Unix,
the latter just plain MS-Windows 3.1 (hard to believe now, but it was 1994).
The WWW server was later upgraded to Windows95 and soon moved to our new
Sun workstation. In 1995 most of the administrative duties
were taken over by a more professional
administrator who configures our Sun Sparc server
ocean.iopan.gda.pl.
However, I still do some minor administrative tasks on our newer RedHat
Linux server water.iopan.gda.pl. I am also one of the three
persons responsible for preparing the guidelines for the refurbishing of the Institute's
Web pages.
Programming experience:
- Application programming in FORTRAN, BASIC, Pascal and C/C++ languages. The work includes 3-D Monte Carlo program for ray-tracing radiation in both the ocean and the atmosphere.
- Experience with DOS/Windows, Mac OS and Unix operating systems (including administering SCO Unix, Solaris, SGI Unix and Linux hosts).
- Web site development experience since 1994. Practical knowledge of HTML, CSS and XHTML languages.
Other important experiences:
- Faculty leader of the NZS student union at the Mathematics-Physics-Chemistry Department of Gdansk University (the first non-communist student association in Poland), 1980-1981.
- Organizing the first free election for the Gdansk City Council (as the secretary of City Election Commission of Gdansk), May 1990.
