The two sites that have been chosen for the investigations are:
- a sandy sublittoral area in the Baltic at the Hel Peninsula, Gulf of Gdansk, Poland and
- a sandy sublittoral area in the North Sea, at the island of Sylt, located on the west coast of Germany.
Both field sites are located within boundaries of nature preserves and close to research institutes
