The task of the Polish side, funded by Ministry of Science and Highier Education (no. Nr 695/N-ARCTICNET/2010/0), was to determine the distribution of mezoscale ice protozoa from pico- and nanoflagellataes (K. Piwosz) build mostly from the biomass of diatoms as a food for large ciliates (J. Wiktor, A. Tatarek, M . Rozanska - Pluta).

The 120 samples of simpagic protista were analised as also 37 of plankton and 42 samples taken in the research area to determine qualitative and quantitative occurence of nano and picoplankton flagellatae.
